1980s Background Talent Hair Guidelines
ALL TALENT
No Modern Color: Hair must be natural-looking tones. No "fashion colors" (pink, blue, purple), harsh ombré, or high-contrast modern balayage.
Matte over Shine: The 80s were the era of hairspray and volume, not the sleek, "glass hair" look of today. Avoid heavy oils or shine serums.
Product is Your Friend: Don't be afraid of mousse, gel, or firm-hold hairspray.
MALES STYLING
Men’s hair in the 80s was generally longer and more textured than current modern fades.
Length: Medium length is preferred. Hair should ideally cover the tops of the ears and touch the back of the collar.
No Modern Fades: Please avoid "skin fades," "hard parts," or sharply buzzed sides/backs.
The "Mullet" Silhouette: Even if not a full mullet, having more length in the back than the top is very period-accurate.
Extra TipsAvoid the "Flat" Look
Please do not arrive with "beach waves" made by a modern flat iron; these look too contemporary. Use a curling iron or rollers instead.
