HAIR NOTES BY ROLE (Speed the Plow):
Welcome to Speed the Plow! Thank you for being a part of this project. Here are some notes for you to follow in regard to looks for the hair department. PLEASE COME FULLY HAIR CAMERA READY!

GENERAL GUIDELINES

• Please come to set with clean, dry hair that is fully styled and ready to film.

• Come to set looking the same every day (same style, same part, same level of grooming).

• Hair should look natural and realistic for the world of the film.

• Please avoid overly styled / trendy looks (ex: slick wet looks, extreme teasing, dramatic waves, overly “done” glam hair).

• Avoid heavy product buildup (greasy roots, crunchy gel, etc.).

• If your hair is dyed an unnatural color or you have a dramatic style change planned, please notify production before arriving.

STUDIO ADMIN TYPES

(Receptionist, Gopher, Admin)

• Hair should be neat, polished, and elevated — these are higher-up studio types and should look more put-together and classy.

• Preferred styles:

  • Smooth, professional blowout

  • Soft, controlled waves (nothing too beachy)

  • Sleek ponytail or low bun (intentional + polished, not messy)

  • Half-up styles that look clean and styled

  • Simple, clean down styles with minimal flyaways

• Hair should look fresh, brushed, and maintained.

• Please avoid:

  • Messy buns / messy ponytails

  • Heavy teasing or overly “done” glam hair

  • Extreme trendy looks (wet hair looks, exaggerated volume, etc.)

• Men should have clean, groomed hair (neat and professional — not overly messy).

WORKERS

(Painters, Workman Carrying X, Burly Men)

• Hair can be more casual, rugged, and lived-in.

• Men: any hairstyle is fine, including slightly messy or grown-out looks.

• Facial hair is okay (if applicable) and can be more natural/less polished.

• Women: keep hair simple and practical — like you’re working a physical job.

  • Ponytails, braids, messy buns, or natural down styles work well

• Please avoid:

  • Fresh “salon blowout” looks

  • Perfect curls / overly glam styling

SET CREW

(PA, Crew Types, Gaffer, Grip)

• Hair should look realistic for a working crew environment.

• Men: clean or casual hair is fine (neatly groomed or naturally messy).

• Women: hair can be worn down or pulled back — practical styles preferred.

• Keep it natural and believable (not overly styled).

TOURISTS & TOUR BUS DRIVER

• Hair should look normal and everyday.

• Tourists can be slightly more styled than crew/workers, but still natural and realistic.

• Women: light styling is fine (simple waves, ponytail, half-up, etc.).

• Men: casual grooming is fine.

• Please avoid anything that looks too trendy, too editorial, or overly glam.

MAKE UP NOTES BY ROLE (Speed the Plow):

GENERAL GUIDLINES

• Come to set looking the same every day. 

• Please wear sunscreen when working outdoors. 

• Please do not have glitter, shimmers, bright lip colors, or over done false eyelashes. If you have fake nails they should be solid color.  

• Please inform your artist if you have any tattoos that will show while in costume.

STUDIO ADMIN TYPES I.E. RECEPTIONIST, GOPHER, ADMIN
No visible tattoos.

Men can be clean shaven or have neatly groomed facial hair. Prefer tight beards or mustaches.

Women should have natural beauty makeup following the general guidelines above. Nails can be short or long. Solid color.
