👕 3/23 COSTUME NOTES
Thank you for being part of this scene!
This takes place in Summer 2005 in New Orleans, so we are looking for clothing that feels authentic to that time period — simple, classic, and not overly modern or trendy.
Please bring multiple outfit options that fit the guidelines below.
🎬 OVERALL LOOK
It is a hot summer day in New Orleans, so think:
• Lightweight, breathable fabrics
• Casual, everyday summer clothing
• Natural, lived-in looks
We are aiming for a real, authentic feel, not fashion-forward or styled.
👕 APPROPRIATE OPTIONS
• Jeans (classic cuts — no overly ripped or modern styles)
• Short sleeve shirts
• Plain T-shirts (no logos)
• Casual button-down shirts
• Simple skirts or casual dresses
🎨 COLORS
• Earth tones, muted colors, and soft shades work best
• Subtle patterns are okay (nothing bold or modern)
🚫 DO NOT BRING:
• Clothing with logos, graphics, or branding of any kind
• Red, black, or white shirts
• Trendy or modern fashion styles (anything that feels current/2020s)
• Designer or high-fashion looks
• Athleisure or overly styled outfits
👠 FOOTWEAR NOTES
Please bring:
• Non-descript black or brown dress shoes or flats
🚫 NO sneakers
📸 STYLE REFERENCE (VERY IMPORTANT)
Think of how people dressed in the early 2000s (around 2005):
• Simple, everyday outfits — nothing overly styled
• Mall brands like Gap, Old Navy, basic department store looks
• Slightly relaxed or basic fits (not tight, cropped, or fashion-forward)
• Clothing that feels a little dated or timeless, not current
If your outfit looks like something you would wear today for a night out or Instagram, it is likely too modern for this scene.
⚠️ IMPORTANT
Please bring several options so our Costume Department can choose the best look for camera.
When in doubt, choose something that feels simple, slightly dated, and natural, rather than trendy.

1990s Hair Notes
• Finish: Hair should look intentional. High shine (gel/pomade) or "piecey" textures. Avoid the soft, effortless "beach waves" common today.
• Parts: Sharp, defined parts. Center parts were king, but extreme side parts or zigzag parts are very era-appropriate.
• Tools: Lean heavily on flat irons for stick-straight looks or small-barrel curling irons for tight "crimped" textures.
Women’s Styling Options
1. The "Stick Straight" (The Y2K Standard)
Pin-straight hair with a sharp center part.
• Prep: Blow-dry smooth and finish with a flat iron. Use a smoothing serum for a "glass hair" effect.
• Tuck: Hair should be tucked neatly behind both ears.
2. The Up-Do (Spiky & Structural)
• High pigtails, "Space Bun" hybrids, or a claw-clip twist.
• The Key: Leave the ends of the hair poking out of the bun or clip to create "spiky ends." * Face-Framing: Pull out two very thin, symmetrical strands at the forehead (commonly called "tendrils" or "antenna strands") and gel them so they stay sleek.
3. The "Crimped" or Texture-Heavy Look
• The Look: Micro-braids or crimped sections scattered throughout the hair.
• Prep: If a crimper isn't available, talent can braid small sections of wet hair overnight and unravel them in the morning for that tight, crinkled texture.
Men’s Styling Options
1. The "Heartthrob" Middle Part
• The Look: Also known as "curtains." Hair is cut to ear/eye length and parted down the middle.
• Prep: Use a light pomade to keep the "curtains" from falling flat. It should look slightly bouncy but groomed.
2. The Spiky/Frosted Texture
• The Look: Short on the sides, spiky on top.
• Prep: Use heavy-hold gel to create distinct, individual spikes. Avoid a uniform "faux-hawk"—think more "textured mess" or "boy band" spikes.
3. The "Buzz"
• The Look: A clean, uniform buzz cut (Grade 2 or 3). Very popular for the minimalist 90s aesthetic.
Period-Appropriate Accessories
Encourage talent to bring or wear the following for an instant "time-travel" effect:
• Butterfly Clips: Multiple small clips used to "crown" the head
• Snap Clips: Large silver or colored metal "click" clips worn symmetrically at the temples.
• Stretch Comb Headbands: The circular wire headbands that create a "rake" texture in the hair.
• Scrunchies: High-placed, velvet or neon fabric.
Please avoid modern "balayage" or "shadow roots." If your hair has a modern dye job, try to style it in a way that minimizes the gradient, or opt for a sleek ponytail.
